Laws of Saddle fit

​

1. Distribute the weight of the rider evenly while the horse is in motion.

Over muscle avoiding bones and ligaments.

 

2.  Over the largest appropriate Surface area.

Neither too long for the horse or rider

 

3. While allowing correct limb function.

Not restricting the shoulder or putting pressure on the lumbar spine.

 

4. Providing a balanced, secured yet pliable seat for the rider.

Remaining central and stable while in motion.

 

 

Leighton Norris Saddlery offer saddle fitting services throughout South Wales and the surrounding areas. I am fully qualified through the International Academy of Saddle Fitters. I offer fittings for both new and existing saddles.

Costs for the fitting

 

The costs only cover the fitting -

 

1 Horse /1 Saddle £60

1 Horse / 2 Saddles £70

4 or more horses on the same yard £50 per horse and additional saddles £10

For larger yards and group booking over 10 horses please call to discuss.

 

Flocking Services

 

Minor flocking and Alterations on site £15 and £30

 

Full saddle re-flocking from £120 to £150

 

All adjustments, alterations, repairs, additional gullet bars or shims will incur additional charges.

 

What to expect at a fitting

 

The appointment will take between an 60 and 90 minutes, each horse.

 

What I will need

 

Rider to be in attendance

A clean and dry horse

A flat surface to trot the horses up

School / surface to access lunging and a ridden assessment.

 

If you don’t have a surface and decide to ride in a field this will be done at owners own risk.

 

I will carry out the appointment in ten steps. You the customer will receive a full copy of all notes and templates emailed to you with 48-96 hours after the appointment.

Mileage Charge

 

There may be additional millage charges, Please send me your postcode so I can quote you for travel.

 

If there more than one person on the yard that requires a fitting travel costs can be split between people.

 

All travel costs will be agreed prior to the appointment.
